Skarlin is located about 8 km northwest from Nowe Miasto Lubawskie. It was mentioned for the first time in 1339 as “Zcyrlin”. In 1885, Skarlin was inhabited by 1070 inhabitants, of which 914 were Catholics, 143 evangelicals and 13 Jews. At that time, there were two schools: Catholic - employing 2 teachers, attended by 130 students, and Evangelical school, attended by 30 students.
There are 628 inhabitants in the village. There is a church, a primary school, a village clubhouse and a volunteer fire department with brass band in the village council.
